San Sebastian Travel Information

San Sebastian TourSan Sebastian City is only 20 kilometer away from the French border but amazingly it is not influenced by its nearest neighbor-France; and remained very much Spanish from its food to its culture.

As of the writing of this article, there are no direct flights to San Sebastian. Thus, you should fly to Bilbao, Santander, Madrid, Barcelona or France then travel to San Sebastian. You may travel overland to this Donostia city from Bilbao, Santander and France; and take a domestic flight straight from Barcelona or Madrid airport to reach this Basque city.

A night train travel is also advisable if you wanted to travel by train going to San Sebastian. A train travel from Madrid usually takes more or less 6 hours and 7 hours from Barcelona. Thus, you can sleep the distance on a sleeper car and wake up in the city.

The city is so much loved because of its beaches, Concha being the famous one. All of San Sebastian beach is guarded and has precautions. If you happen to see a green flag up then you may proceed frolicking at sea for it signifies no danger at all; when a yellow flag is up then you must take a bath with precaution perhaps the current is a little bit strong and of course when the red flag is up then you are not allowed to take a bath.

San Sebastian summer water temperature is about 19 degrees to 22 degrees and thus it is very conducive for swimming. These temperatures will drop down even up to 9 or 10 degrees on the months of January and February.

There is life beyond the beaches in San Sebastian. You should allot enough time to explore the tapa bars and discotheques in the area either in the morning or in the afternoon. Though, to meet beach combers like you, schedule your beach exploring in the morning and go to the shops and tapa bars in the afternoon.
