San Sebastian Events during the month of January 2010

San Sebastian Spain is considered as one of the most popular holiday destinations all over the world. The historic city has been the favorite spot of the many tourists because of its incredible scenery, stunning old historical buildings and rich of heritage. But San Sebastian is not only popular because of its beautiful image but also because the city is abounding with a variety of interesting events the whole year round. For this New Year, starting on this month of January also starts the must see events in San Sebastian.

The events to expect this month of January are the following:

  1. The Cabalgata de los Reyes or the Three Kings/Wise Men—this event is held every year during the month of January 5th. The locals will attire as kings riding with their horse around the streets. They bring gifts and give it to eager children waiting for them on the streets. The local kings will mostly start its journey from the Town Hall.
  2. Bertsolari Festival—this event usually takes place during mid-January. It is a traditional Basque poetry event which is mostly held in the Kursaal Auditorium.
  3. Crafts Fair—this about to happen in mid-January. There will be local handicrafts event with a huge exhibition area based around Koldo Mitxelena Library.
  4. La Tamborrada—this is a must see event. If you were in San Sebastian in this month of January you should not miss this. The event is held in mid-January and one of the most popular festivals of the city. The festival is usually celebrated the day before the feast of San Sebastian Feast Day. The event kickoff high decibels, several of drummers marching around the city starting from the day until night.
  5. San Sebastian International Cross Country Race—this is a good event to see especially those who were athletes since it draws noteworthy athletes. The event usually held at the Zubieta race course.
  6. Cycling—held at the Anoeta Velodrome. The event is held in late January in the commemoration of the significant yearly cycling.
  7. San Sebastian Feast Day—this is the Patron’s day which is held in late January. The event will feature various activities like parties, parades, races and more which is usually about to happen around the Plaza de la Constitucion.

These are the significant events to see and experience in San Sebastian this month of January.
