EVENTS IN JANUARY

5th of January: Cavalcade of the Three Kings

Everything begins in the afternoon and extends for several hours until evening. For many, this date represents the purest of the city, as the magic and illusion intermingle in a unique way. It should be pointed out that children are the main protagonists of this feast because of their innocence and sweetness. Both features can be appreciated when Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar arrive at the City Hall. It is there where small is excited to see how these three characters read their letters. Later there is the famous "ride" through the main streets of San Sebastian.

Venue: downtown San Sebastian.

6th of January: Cross the International Gymnastics of Ulía

After the New Year festivities and the gifts of the Three Kings, there is is the traditional athletic competition. It's worth noting that in 2008 was met its seventy-eighth edition.

Venue: Paseo de La Zurriola.

20th of January: Festival of Drums

This celebration is the most important in the city and it is in honor of San Sebastian. It all begins on the evening of the 19th when the population of Donostia meets at the Plaza of the Constitution of the Old Town. There, all of them come together around the table that houses the Tamborrada Gaztelubide of the Company, to hoist the flag and give the party started. The next day, in the morning, takes place the parade of Tamborrada Child, which is characterized by hosting more than fifty companies from various schools in San Sebastian. Moreover, when the midnight of the day twenty arrives, the celebrations end when the Union Craftsmanship lowers flag in the Plaza de la Constitution. This view has a historical origin festival that began at the end of the nineteenth century. It should be pointed out that music is played by the band from the city and it includes the anthem of San Sebastian.

26th of January: Feast of Caldereros

Before giving initiated by the long awaited carnival, several caldereros companies dressed as ancient Hungarians, beating their pans and singing while walking around the city. It should be noted that this holiday is a classical tradition in San Sebastian.

Venue: the entire city of San Sebastian.

27th of January: Day of Pastors and Nodrizas

After a day of caldereros, it celebrates the annual parade of nurses, known as inudes, and the shepherds, known as Artzain. One of the main features of this parade is given from noon and runs for several more hours.

Venue: Old Town and Gros.


EVENTS IN FEBRUARY

31th of January - 4th of February: Carnival

The date of this celebration varies each year but it always keeps the essence of it. Some of the most striking are the costumes of politicians, and the monsters of the fairies, all of them very colourful. Finally, the work of the various companies is bright. They will walk through the main streets of the city, parading and displaying the best of his art. Other activities that can also be enjoyed are linked to the dance, to folk festivals and competitions.

Venue: the entire city of San Sebastian.

10th of February: Day of the Piñata

This celebration is being carried out by the residents of the neighborhood of Altza in San Sebastian and aims to dismiss all over the top to the carnival. It should be noted that the main protagonists of this holiday are young and piñatas.

Venue: Altza neighborhood.

23th of February: Six hours of Euskadi

This competition is characterized by cycling to host the best exponents of the cycling path, who showed their best abilities on the track.In the year 2008 was the eighteenth edition of the Six Hours of Euskadi.

Venue: Anoeta Velodrome.


EVENTS IN MARCH

7th - 9th of March: International Competition for Piano

This competition, that has international status, is held every year in San Sebastian and has as its fundamental mission to find the best values of the piano. The age range of the participants varies from eight to twenty-one years.

Venue: Teatro Principal, Chamber of City Hall and Teatro Victoria Eugenia.

16th - 23th of March: Open International Chess City of San Sebastian

For a week, there is a face to face between several competitors in chess to see who is the best. The strategy and calm are two key aspects to achieve victory, and incidentally, the title of champion. This sport event involves the greatest chess master.

Venue: Hotel Costa Vasca.

Last Saturday in March: Feast of the Verdel in Mutriku

This celebration brings together every year a large number of people in the port site offers a free tasting of verdel. It should be noted that throughout the week before the last Saturday of March will perform a series of cultural activities and entertainment. One of the most prominent is the various music concerts.

Venue: Port of Verdel.


EVENTS IN APRIL

5th - 6th of April: Festival of Spirit and The Queimada

During these two days, the Galician community is thrown into the streets to offer their best products. Some of these are wine and Albariño Ribeiro, octopus, cheese Artua, spirits, the pie and empanadas Santiago. All these are tasted by a number of visitors who come to the city.
