EVENTS OF MAY

18th of May: Half Marathon in San Sebastian

During this day the main avenues of the city dresses up and receive the best runners of this sport. In 2008 was carried out in the eighth edition of this competition, which occurs at sea level and a flat land. According to official figures, the total is to complete twenty-one kilometers, which could be completed after the calculations, in about two and a half hours. It should be noted that the game is in the Palacio de Congresos Kursaal.

Venue: the entire city of San Sebastian.

This celebration takes place every year and it is a binding commitment for all the young people of Deba. These celebrations are carried out, usually around the fifteenth day of May. On that date, two holidays where folk festivals, bulls and traditional dances are the main attractions of the event. Another attraction that is also to highlight is the Children's Concert Band and the Band of Music. On the other hand, religion is taken account here, with the Mass held in the chapel of San Roque. After it, it is celebrated the traditional Ezpata Dantza.

Venue: Streets of Deba, in the Hermitage of San Roque and the Plaza Zaharra.

25th of May: Day of the Regional Houses

This holiday is taking place in San Sebastian to hear much more about the customs and traditions of other regions of Spain. If you are a participant of this holiday you may find the best of Castilla-Leon, La Rioja, Extremadura, Catalonia, Galicia and Andalucia. It should be mentioned here you may taste and buy traditional products from these regions. Finally, we must not forget that music and dancing are also a fundamental part of this celebration. Both, in combination, cause the public to have fun no more power.

EVENTS IN JUNE

23th of June: San Juan Night

This holiday is given throughout the early morning of the twenty-three twenty-four and mysticism is its main feature. It takes the streets of San Sebastian in honor of San Juan. This is intended to ward off negative spirits and get to the summer season. On the other hand, it should be noted that the Plaza of the Constitution is the place where the Donostias come to appreciate the traditional blessing of the ash.

Venue: the entire city of San Sebastian while the Plaza of the Constitution is the prime focus of the celebrations.

26th of June: San Pelayo Festivity in Zarautz

The fundamental mission of this celebration is honoring the patron saint of Zarautz. To achieve this there are carried out a series of activities, ranging from dance to folk festivals.

Venue: main avenues of Zarautz.

29th of June: Patron Saint Festivity of Lasarte

This festival is held in honor of San Pedro and begins with the classic txupinazo, which is given from the town hall. In total, this celebration lasts four days, with sports and cultural activities of the most renowned and hierarchy.

Venue: main streets of Lasarte.

30rd of June: San Marcial Festivity in Irun

This celebration is performed to celebrate the victory against the French army in the year 1522. The entire village leaved the Hermitage of San Juan on a pilgrimage; prayers remain an important part of this holiday. Another activity that is very famous here is "The Alarde," which is a parade of weapons through the streets of Irun.

Venue: Irúan main streets and in the chapel of San Juan.


EVENTS IN JULY

In late July: Jazz Festival.

This is done for those who love this genre so sensual and melancholy. For this reason, many of the concerts are free. It should be pointed out that the actions that occur here are of high standard.

Venue: main streets of San Sebastian.

Throughout July: Horse Racing

This celebration has as main characteristic promote competition among the best horses in the city. The various owners exhibit the best of their stables to be the winners of these races.

Venue: Racecourse Zubieta.

22th of July: St. Mary Magdalene Festivity in Renteria

This holiday is done to pay tribute to St. Mary Magdalene. That is why we are taking various actions to celebrate their protection. It all begins at seven in the evening of this twenty-first day when it launched the famous txupinazo from the balcony of the town hall. It should be noted that the celebrations will stretch until midnight of the twenty-fifth day of July, at which time you will hear one last time "El Centenario." Some of the things that visitors can make to get here are visit the Plaza de Toros located in the District of Agustinas or go to the Barracks located in the District of Fanderia. On the other hand, it is worth recalling that in the Avenida de Navarra are various stalls offering a range of products typical of the area. For music lovers, the latter can be found in Alameda.

26th - 31th of July: Santa Ana Festivity in Pasajes de San Juan-Pasaia

Here there are premium dances and folk festivals. Fun is assured in this celebration. Therefore, visitors can enjoy a series of cultural and sports activities. It should be noted that the fireworks are widely used here.

Venue: Streets of Pasajes.

27th of July: Aurresku of Santaneros in Ordizia

This celebration is characterized by the great longevity it has from five centuries ago. In itself, this is a rite that has touches of dance in which women are dressed in Manila shawl. The event is for married couples during the year that are assembled at City Hall after starting in the company of Mayor due to the Parish. There is a Mass and, when it concludes, all of them return to the City Council to sign on an old book of acts known as Santaneros. The signatures belong to registered mayor, the incoming, the outgoing, the stewards of spouses and couples. Subsequent to this fact, the mayor goes down to the square, taken from the hands of the young spouses and begins the classic Aurresku of Santaneros. It should be noted that the dances are very important in this holiday. Therefore, men dance to the challenge, and the Zortziko agurra, while women dance the arin-arin and the fandango.

Venue: Plaza Mayor de Ordizia.

31st of July: San Ignacio Festivity in Azpeitia

This holiday is to honor the patron saint of Guipuzcoa. It should be noted that this conclusion is given throughout the province, but with greater force in Azpeitia. Two key activities that take place that day are music and fireworks. On the other hand, the dances are infaltables here, the visiting public to be the main lucky to see them.

EVENTS IN AUGUST

9th - 16th of August: Big Week

San Sebastian festival summer is so important, specially for tourism. Therefore, one of its main attractions is the Festival-Contest International Fireworks of San Sebastian. This is done in the Bay of La Concha and it is one of the largest worldwide in the field of pyrotechnics. It should be noted that to this celebration go the most prestigious houses of fireworks to offer the best of his repertoire. In the end, after having assessed the various shows, the winner of the competition is chosen. Other activities throughout the eight days that lasts this celebration are the corridas bullfighting, the open-air concerts and street performances in the Playa de la Zurriola.

Venue: throughout the city and La Concha Bay.

14th - 20th August: Deba Festival

This holiday is in honor of the Virgin and bullfighting activities are the main attraction. It should be pointed out that the classic is running one of the highlights of this celebration, like heifers. All this takes place in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

Venue: City Council Deba.

16th of August: Santa Maria la Real Festivity in Zarautz

Here is commemorated this holiday honoring the patron saint of the town. That's why folk festivals and dances are held to honor. The competitions are another interesting attraction of this celebration. It should be noted that the boat races and the procession of the Virgin Dormida are two fundamental aspects of this festival. Finally, the fireworks are responsible for giving a different nuance to this holiday.

Venue: Plaza de Zarautz.

22th - 26th of August: St. Bartholomew Festivity in Ibarra

This celebration is done to pay tribute to the patron saint of Ibarra, San Bartolome. Everything starts before noon with a lunch and then continues with the meeting of the youngest squads. For the twelve noon, the festival officially starts. Meanwhile, in the afternoon is a meal for the little ones. It should be pointed out that games are not exempted from the party. Therefore, both children and young people can enjoy them. Past few hours, it is the traditional "Tamborrada" and a serie of musical performances.

Venue: Streets of Ibarra.

31st of August: Reminder of the fire that razed the city in 1813

San Sebastian reminds people every year from the fire that devastated the city in the War of Independence. What was peculiar to that fact that only one survived standing avenue, which incidentally was the oldest of the city, the street on 31st of August.

Venue: in the street on August 31 at the Old Town.
